I’ve been fortunate and visited nyc often. I try to explore new things as well as return to some of my favourites, like walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On my visit this week I did a bit of both!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍏 PERENNIAL FAVES

1️⃣The Frick Museum
2️⃣Brooklyn Bridge (subway or taxi to Brooklyn and then return to Manhattan via the bridge to admire the views)
3️⃣ Walk on the High Line to enjoy the views of the Hudson River, the NY architecture and incredible gardens along the path.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍏 NEW
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣Tried new restaurants including: @lafayette380 (upscale French bistro) and @pasqualejones for exceptional pizza and a very fun vibe.
2️⃣ Explored Brooklyn to admire the brownstones and get a better sense of it.
3️⃣ Stayed at a new hotel - @citizenm and had a fabulous experience ⭐️ . (You can learn more in my saved story ⬆️)

I am going to New York on Thursday to visit my son - to be ctd…

🎂I was last there for my 50th birthday and had a fabulous time: I saw Hamilton, ate at Dirt Candy (incredible food and a Canadian chef, Amanda Cohen) walked in Greenwich Village and visited my favorite museum, The Frick Collection.

🍎 I stayed at the Lexington Hotel and this photo was the view from our balcony. It was built in 1929, and has wonderful architecture and history. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio lived here during their brief marriage in the 1950’s.

🔥Hot travel tip: if you collect Marriott points you can use them to stay here as it’s part of the Autograph Collection - independently owned and operated boutique hotels which have an affiliation with Marriott.

🌏I try to avoid big hotel chains when I travel in developing countries so my travel dollars benefit the local community. But collecting Marriott points allows me to subsidize stays in expensive U.S. cities like New York & Los Angeles.

🏨There are 200+ hotels in the Autograph Collection but they aren’t all winners. I’ve also stayed at NYC’s Algonquin Hotel, part of Autograph. I don’t recommend it. 👎🏻 It has an interesting history and chic lobby bar but the rooms are small and dark. I much preferred The Lexington.

🗽Btw - this weekend I’ll be staying in the Lower East Side - a very different vibe than midtown. More on Friday 🙂...

✨ SPECIAL PARIS EXPERIENCES ✨
1️⃣ Cocktails at Le Roopftop Peninsula Paris. A lovely splurge with a wonderful view - the Eiffel Tower is in the other direction.

2️⃣The Louvre at night. Beautiful and peaceful with no one around

3️⃣Luxembourg Gardens. It’s gorgeous, and the perfect place for a stroll & picnic.

4️⃣ The Eiffel Tower at night. (I’ve written a story about my quest to find the best view - link in bio).

5️⃣ Shopping at Le Bon Marché. I love that it features French designers; the pants I'm wearing in this photo are from there; the designer is @soeur_paris.

6️⃣I said 5 but had to include one more... escargots at a special dinner at Grand Café Capucines - @grandcafecapucines - something special I only eat in Paris. 🐌 :)

E-reader or books?

✈️ I’ve switched over to an e-reader for travel and wish I had done it sooner! Despite my best intentions, I seem to always overpack (you may know that about me 🙂) so leaving a stack of books at home is a step in the right direction.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💦 I use the Kindle Paperwhite which is waterproof - handy when you’re reading atop the pool waterfall. 💦
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📚 That said, I do love actual books and still buy them for home. Do you use an e-reader or do you travel with actual books?

I love to travel but also really appreciate my own city. 🏔 ☀️

If you visit Denver, head to the RINO (river north) neighbourhood to see all the fabulous street art. It's mostly concentrated within a few blocks, and there are terrific restaurants here as well.

I was down there last night and reminded of one of my favorite murals. It’s by the artist Shepard Fairey @obeygiant who also created the iconic Hope posters for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign.

I also ate at my favourite RINO restaurant, Hop Alley; the food is incredible Chinese-inspired small plates. (Sorry, I forgot to take photos 🤦‍♀️) @hopalleydenver
